COTA SA E-NEWSLETTER
29 NOVEMBER 2022

From Miranda Starke, Acting Chief Executive

Earlier this month we held the COTA SA Annual General Meeting and were pleased that so many of you could join us as we reflected on our achievements and the progress we’ve made towards the goals outlined in our strategic plan.

At the AGM we heard from Chris Picton MP, Minister for Health and Wellbeing.

We also presented our Annual Snapshot document that clearly highlights the breadth and diversity of what we do at COTA SA and reveals the surprising number of areas we are involved in. We may be modest in size, but our voice is loud, our engagement is wide, and our impact is deep.

Our achievements are only possible with the help of our community.

Thank you to everyone who helped us make a difference this year including our dedicated and skilled staff and Board; the 141 Volunteers who are the mainstay of our work; our Policy Council and their sub committees; members of our important advisory groups; the thousands of COTA SA members and supporters; more than 1,800 influencers of The Plug-in and our clients; Strength for Life participants, instructors and providers across the state; the organisations that fund our programs and sponsor successful events; the 100,000 older South Australians who engaged with us last year; and the 698,000 South Australians aged 50+ who inspire our work.

At our core COTA SA is an older people’s movement. We value the trust placed in us because we are non-partisan and independent. Thank you to our Members and to all our supporters and stakeholders for helping us make a difference this year.

COTA SA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2022

It was wonderful to see so many of our valued members and supporters at our Annual General Meeting on Monday 14 November. Following a Welcome to Country by Aunty Rosalind Coleman, Chris Picton MP, Minister for Health and Wellbeing, provided an address and Miranda Starke, COTA SA Acting Chief Executive, shared highlights from the previous year which can be found in the 2022 Annual Snapshot.

FLEURIEU NEIGHBOURHOOD NETWORK

50 THINGS TO DO BEFORE YOU ARE 100
Share your suggestions!

Fleurieu Neighbourhood Network is creating a list of '50 things to do before you are 100' because we want people to come together and explore the Fleurieu with their neighbours, build enduring connections and have fun!

Whether you’re enjoying a pie from a local bakery, exploring rock pools or taking a heritage walk, we hope that our ‘50 things’ list will bring people closer to each other and make memories that will last for years.

It may be 50 things to do before you’re 100, but they’re activities that can be enjoyed by everyone — because you’re never too old to enjoy winning at Pooh sticks!

Share your suggestions! We have plenty of ideas of what to include but would love to hear about your favourite activities on the Fleurieu.

Please email your suggestions to Jillian Mitchell at Jmitchell@cotasa.org.au

COMMUNITY PERCEPTION SURVEY

Office for Ageing Well wants to understand how older people are feeling about a range of aspects of their life and importantly, if they consider that they are ‘living well’.

Living well involves:

  • Having homes and communities that enable flexibility and choice, and support us to live how we choose, no matter our age, needs, wants and desires;
  • A future where everyone has the opportunity, support and encouragement to maintain and develop meaningful connections; and
  • A future where we all have the capabilities and supports for remaining active participants throughout all life’s transitions such as retirement, death of a partner, terminal illness, loss of driver’s licence, change in financial circumstances etc.

Responses are anonymous and will help to focus efforts and resources that support older South Australians to live and age well under South Australia’s Plan for Ageing Well 2020 – 2025. Complete the online survey here.
