International Day of Older Persons 2024 celebration: Meaningful connections at every age | |

On Tuesday 1 October, we will be celebrating the 2024 International Day of Older Persons (IDOP). This is a free, intergenerational, celebration event and our theme this year is meaningful connections at every age. This year's keynote speaker will be award-winning, respected Australian journalist, Geraldine Doogue AO.
This event was made available for booking yesterday and we're thrilled with the response so far - initial spots were fully booked in just a few hours.
If you're keen to attend we warmly invite you to add your name to the waiting list, we anticipate being able to release additional tickets in the coming weeks. | |

We want to hear from you – ambulance access for older people in SA | |
| |
In recent years, COTA SA has been advocating for the State Government to fund free ambulance services for people on the full Age Pension in South Australia.
SA is out of step with the rest of the country in making paramedic services affordable and accessible for older and vulnerable people. South Australia’s emergency ambulance call-out fee is one of the highest in Australia and one of the last states to provide free ambulance services to groups of older people. To compare South Australia’s ambulance fees with the rest of the nation, click here.
Our ongoing engagement with older South Australians has indicated that cost is a barrier for many in using this important health service. To help us continue this important advocacy work, we want to hear from you – have you experienced challenges paying an ambulance bill? Aged Care Reforms Survey for Older People | |

Now open - share your feedback in the Aged Care Reforms Survey for Older People. The survey is run twice a year by the Department of Health and Aged Care. It’s an opportunity for older people, their families and carers to give their feedback on: - the changes happening in aged care
- how they would like to receive information about the aged care reforms
The second survey is open from 28 August 2024 to 18 October 2024. It will roughly 10 minutes to complete. Read more about how to get involved with the survey here | |

Lunch on the Lawns at Government House | |

Our Patrons, Her Excellency and Mr Bunten invite the public to come to the Government House gardens, bring a picnic lunch, spread out a rug or unfold a camping chair and enjoy the surroundings, while listening to a community band or orchestra.
These free events will be held on the first Friday of the month from 12 noon to 2pm, starting this Friday 6 September 2024. No need to book, just come through the main gates and choose your picnic spot.
On the same dates, free garden tours of the Government House grounds, hosted by the Friends of the Botanic Gardens, will run from 10.45am to 11.45am. Registrations are required for these guided tours by phoning 08 8203 9800.
