COTA SA's State Budget submission in focus

Priority Two: Health and Wellbeing

Good health and timely access to high quality health and care services is a high priority for South Australians aged over 50. Through our engagement with older South Australians, we often hear that they want better control of their own health and patient journeys, including options to receive treatment, support and to rehabilitate in their own home. Paramedic services is a key part of this journey and the overall public heath triage and intervention system.

Equally important to older South Australians are adopting habits that promote wellness and have a positive impact on physical and mental health. Good oral healthcare has a central place in general health. So too does physical strength and balance. We are urging the government to respond to the healthcare needs of older South Australians.

COTA Visitors needs you

Visiting an older person is a simple and effective way to connect with someone and brighten a life. As little as one hour every two weeks can make a difference to the wellbeing of an isolated person.

Regular visits from a volunteer under the Community Visitors Scheme (an initiative funded by the Australian Government) can help to improve quality of life and help older people feel less isolated. It can be rewarding for everyone involved and many friendships have been formed through this program.

There are currently more people waiting for a visitor than there are volunteers.

Let’s talk about water in regional South Australia

There's still time to share your experiences and views about your water use and needs

The Plug-in is currently undertaking research to understand the water use and needs of people aged 50+ in regional South Australia.

You’re invited to complete a survey and share insights about your needs, usage and attitudes to water in your local area. You may have concerns about water, or you may not — either way, we want to hear from you!

This project will help us learn more about how water access and use affect older Australians in regional areas and findings will be used to inform COTA SA’s advocacy and help to develop policies and services that better meet the needs of older South Australians.

The Plug-in is COTA SA’s specialist consumer engagement and insights consultancy, connecting people with business, industry and researchers to generate insights that improve products, services and policies for the growing 50+ market.

If you would like to become part of The Plug-in’s community of Influencers, you can register with us online at theplugin.com.au/connect or over the phone on 08 8232 0422.
