We always like to share useful information about scams and scams awareness with our community as it's an issue which can affect anyone. Join our colleagues at COTA Australia on 22 August for free Scams Awareness Training - learn steps to reduce your online risk and get tips on how to stay safe online.

Rainbow Rights Toolkit and Rainbow Rights in Conversation | |

Have you checked out our Rainbow Rights Toolkit or its associated podcast Rainbow Rights in Conversation? Launched in June 2024, COTA SA partnered with South Australian Government’s Office for Ageing Well to develop the Toolkit, which identifies how older LGBTI+ community members can understand and action their rights, as well as providing information to the people who are part of their choices, supports and care. Hosted by Julie McCrossin AM, the podcast and video series features interviews with local LGBTI+ advocates which build on discussions from COTA SA’s Rainbow Rights Forum and provide accessible, in-depth insights into ageing well as a rainbow person. | |

Instructor Start-up Initiative - help us spread the word | |
The Strength for Life Instructor Start-Up Initiative, a partnership between COTA SA and Preventive Health SA, is off to a fantastic start! Applications have been received from across SA, including from CALD communities and regional areas along with instructors across northern and western metro Adelaide. Once trained and set-up, these instructors will help more older South Australians access inclusive, strength-based exercise programs. There are still plenty of places available! If you know a qualified instructor, either already running a Strength for Life program or looking to start their own fitness business, please help share this opportunity.

This Sunday, passionate new instructors will take part in a full day of Strength for Life Tier 2 training. Led by our wonderful Strength for Life Manager Sophie, they’ll learn how to deliver safe, effective strength programs, complete participant assessments, manage risk, and create supportive environments that keep people moving and motivated. | |

Your lived experience matters: What we can learn from older voices without making assumptions!The Plug-in had a wonderful opportunity to be a guest at a webinar series hosted by Health Translation SA. Rachael Nielsen, The Plug-in, and Ian Halkett, an active consumer participant and representing, shared insights into what is important for researchers to know when working with older Australians. It was a great opportunity for us to share what we have learnt running projects, and to hear directly from a participant on what’s important and what assumptions should not be made! | |

Webinar: Support at Home program update for older people
The Department of Health Disability and Ageing are holding a webinar for older people, their families and carers about the Support at Home program starting from 1 November.
When: Thursday 14 August, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm (AEST).

It will include: participant contributions; how quarterly budgets are managed; types of services available; a question-and-answer session. We encourage you to share this webinar with your family and other older people who would lke to know more about the Support at Home program that replaces the current Home Care Packages program in November 2025. | |
